If you’ve lived in Miami long enough you’ve likely seen countless friends leave only to meet new friends … who also eventually leave. It’s not exactly a secret that Miami is sort of a transient city. Well, according to a study by Credit Donkey, it’s actually the seventh “best city for wanderers” in the United States.
The credit site used an interesting set of data to come to the conclusion. They combined Census data of how many people have lived in the state for less than one year, low rental vacancy rates (with the assumption people who are likely to stay would rather buy), the number of moving companies per 1,000 adults, and (to a lesser degree) the number of coin-operate laundromats.
Here’s how Miami stacked up:
Rental vacancy rate: 10.3%
% of state population that moved in last year: 2.8%
Moving companies per 1,000 people: 0.06
Laundromats per 1,000 people: 0.06
“The weather is warm in the winter, the beaches are fabulous, and you won’t get better Cuban food anywhere else,” explains the site. “Wanderers love this place, maybe because it’s so easy to find a place to rent right now.”
It’s probably not a perfect measure, but we all know more than a few people who have come down for a few years before heading elsewhere, so it seems about right.
