Mercadito Midtown’s chef/partner Patricio Sandoval was on hand Tuesday evening to unveil the latest in the Tacos for Strength menu, along with the creation’s guest chef, Andrew Balick, who was last seen as head chef at the Cadet Hotel’s 30-seat restaurant, Pied a Terre.
The taco has a Mediterranean theme, with braised lamb shank, curried Greek yogurt, pickled minted-carrot salsa, and crispy shoestring potatoes. Chef Balick’s tacos (four for $16) will be available throughout the month of September. Five percent of sales generated from the taco will be donated to Share Our Strength, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger by 2015.
Balick joins a host of other chefs who have participated in the Tacos for Strength program, including Wylie Dufresne, Clay Conley, Michelle
Bernstein, and Michael Schwartz.
Mercadito has also announced the menu for its next Spirited Dinner next Wednesday, August 31, at 7 p.m., part of an ongoing series that pairs a specially crafted menu, incorporating the featured tequila in each dish, with special tequila cocktails created by Tippling Bros., designers of Mercadito’s beverage program.
