Friday:
Boca-based trio The Pretty Faces create the sort of garage pop that’s dirty enough for a dive, but too tuneful to be wasted on shitty acoustics. They’re playing Friday at Propaganda with Band Number 12 and No Class Action. The show is free.
One of my favorite South Florida groups, The State Of is made up of Steph Taylor on piano and Nabedi Osorio on drums. Think grrrly music that navigates eerie-pop reminiscent of the Dresden Dolls and Portishead. They’re playing at Dada. They also play at Wilton Manor’s New Moon Sunday.
Saturday:
Punk at its purest is unrelenting, political, and free (well, free at least some of the time). Radio-Active Records, Broward’s awesome response to the void left by former neighborhood music store Peaches (now Hustler), will host South Florida politico punk quartet To Be Hated , who names Bad Brains, The Clash, Bad Religion, and AAA among its influences. They will play with O.P.S. and Break On Through, the latter of which recently opened for Agent Orange and Fear at Respectable Street. The show, like all shows at Radio-Active, is free.
The closing night of the week-long Propaganda grand opening will include lady rappers of the undead Zombies! Organize!!, sexy-indie rockers The Freakin’ Hott, and the non-Scandinavian Miami pop-indie band Ex Norwegian.
