Over the last couple weeks, we here at Crossfade have become total Spotify addicts.
Our habit began last week after learning that the free on-demand music service had teamed up with Midtown’s Ricochet Lounge to put together a Basel week concert lineup that’s packed with more superstar names than most handpicked Spotify playlists. And yesterday, our compulsive music consumption really hit overdrive when we finally scored a copy of the full four-day show schedule.
But just now, Crossfade’s addiction kinda bottomed out. Apparently, Spotify and Ricochet’s Music Loves Art concert series isn’t open to the general public. That’s right … File Nas and the rest under Art Basel Miami Beach Parties You Are Not Invited To.
Now, um, isn’t it sorta ironic that a company all about bringing free and openly accessible music to the masses would decide to host an exclusive, invite-only Basel bash for VIPs and the art industry elite?
Maybe. But in any case, it looks as though the average music-and-art fan’s got no shot at seeing these Basel shows by Nas, Theophilus London, TV on the Radio, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, or Penguin Prison.
Well, except by either winning co-sponsor Perrier’s Music Loves Art ticket giveaway or waiting until VICE debuts its “four-part original [documentary] series … entitled VICE Meets Spotify Live … in early December.”
So yeah, win that contest and/or set your browser to vice.com. Otherwise, you are not invited.
Nas, Theophilus London, TV on the Radio, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, and Penguin Prison, plus DJs Mark Farina and Venus X as part of Spotify and Ricochet’s Music Loves Art, co-sponsored by 42BELOW and Perrier. Thursday, December 1, through Sunday, December 4. Ricochet Bar & Lounge, 3250 NE First Ave, Miami. All shows are invite-only. Call 305-673-3873 or visit ricochetlounge.com.
