Just because a few lazy douchebags get paid millions to fist-pump, mix overplayed tracks, and strike Christ poses … It doesn’t mean that “DJing is easy,”
And the 305’s own DJ Craze, a three-time solo world DMC champ and Slow Roast Records boss, is here to show that #RealDJing is dope as shit.

Shot at Craze and Slow Roast’s fave downtown party spot, The Garret at Grand Central, Craze’s “New Slaves Routine” video proves the art of DJing (although currently dominated by cheap bass droppers and pop stars) takes skill, talent, and “dopeness.”
“For me, first of all, dopeness is what I like the most,” the video’s voiceover insists. “People who wanna make things as dope as possible.”
But words aren’t even necessary — the message of the four-minute clip is crystal clear.
The vid begins with a confused and somewhat irritated DJ Craze flipping through TV channels. There ain’t nothing on, except The Jersey Shore‘s Pauly D fist-pumpin’ it up, hotel heiress Paris Hilton just standing inside a DJ booth, and David Guetta doin’ his Top 40 thang.
Disgusted, Craze skims through an issue of Mixmag… then tosses it.
“Ninety percent of what DJs do is touch stuff,” says a recording of a Tosh.O. “You’re a professional iPod controller.”
And now homie’s pissed off. So he takes his frustration to the decks at The Garret and shows the Internet a real DJ in action.
With precision, intensity, and flow, Craze proves that despite mainstream stereotypes, #RealDJing is still dope as shit.
