After conducting several highly scientific polls at downtown Fort Lauderdale watering holes, we are convinced that Tears for Fears’ August 31 concert at the Au-Rene Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts will be off the chain. Tickets are available today.

Few bands can boast a body of work that has aged better than that of Tears’ founders Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Sure, there’s that whole Donnie Darko soundtrack connection that got a lot of people singing early hit “Mad World” again — don’t forget American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert on doing a spin on the song last year — but Tears for Fears has long been aligned with authentic culture from the 1980s worth revisiting time and again.

Notably, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” is featured over the closing credits of breakthrough Val Kilmer science nerd comedy Real Genius (remember when they turned the dorm floors into an ice rink?), as well as one of the most absurd music videos ever filmed in a library (below) is “Head Over Heels.”

Tears for Fears. 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 31. Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW Fifth Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. Tickets are $35 to $75; call 954-462-0222 or click here.
