Family Day on Aragon returns to the Gables Cinema with Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie in 3D next Saturday & Sunday, November 8 & 9 at 11:00 am both days. This 3D black & white horror stop-motion animated film is actually a remake of a short he made in 1984. Victor, a boy despondent by the death of Sparky, his beloved pet dog, tries to bring him back to life – with complications he’d never have imagined. Immensely entertaining and wildly imaginative, the movie can be enjoyed on its own terms; though there is, for film buffs, a second reading as a parody and homage to James Whale’s classic 1931 Frankenstein based on the novel by Mary Shelley. In 2012, Frankenweenie was selected by the Boston, Florida, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Nevada and New York Film Critics as Best Animated Feature and nominated for an Oscar in that category. Special ticket prices are $5 for everyone and include free popcorn and soda for children under 12
