Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin is confident. “We have the best roster that we’ve had in the three years I’ve been here,” he told fans at the team’s annual kickoff luncheon. “And most of all, we’ve got people that care about football, that care about one another and want to make a difference. That’s why I’m so optimistic about the 2014 season.”
Optimism, however, doesn’t win ball games — playmakers do. Thursday night’s matchup against the St. Louis Rams at Sun Life Stadium may just offer a glimpse into the future.
The Dolphins’ first team will want to end the 2014 preseason on a high note, riding a big, fat W into the regular-season opener against the Patriots. For players on the chopping block, Thursday’s game against the Rams means a shot at redemption; an impressive performance may earn them a one-way ticket onto the 53-man regular-season roster. But they need your help, according to Philbin.
“We need each and every one of you [fans] to make Sun Life Stadium a decided home-field advantage for our football team.” Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Sun Life Stadium (2269 NW 199th St., Miami Gardens), and tickets cost $40 to $370 via ticketmaster.com.
