Every year, as Christmas decorations are going up, Jews are breaking out their menorahs, dreidels, and frying pans (for latkes). But this year, Birthright Israel NEXT and The Open Tent are putting a new spin on Hanukkah tradition with a holiday party of their own. Join them this Thursday at that secular food temple, the Burger and Beer Joint for A Hanukkah Soiree, an evening of music and spoken word from local Jewish writers.
Headlining the show is Michelle Citrin, a Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter whose YouTube viral video, “20 Things to Do with Matzah,” has received over a million hits. Opening the celebration will be local favorite Jacob Jeffries and some memorable spoken word performances. B&B will have free house beer and wine from 9-10 p.m. and themed cocktails, including the Hanukkah Hammer and the Flaming Menorah. Take that Catskills!
Thu., Dec. 10, 9 p.m., 2009
Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $18,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
