Heavy metal music doesn’t usually grace the stages at the Adrienne Arsht Center. This Thursday at 8 p.m., though, brace yourself for the winds of change when Miami playwright Marco Ramirez brings his latest creation to town. A musical theater piece that “combines myth, magic, and heavy metal,” BroadSword tells the story of New Jersey bandmates who reunite after 16 years to find their missing guitarist. Running through May 9, the production features a cast of local actors, actresses, and cohorts, including acclaimed actor-writer-director Paul Tei, who plays the drummer, Nicky. Tei is known for his role as Barry on Burn Notice as well as for being the founder and artistic director of Miami’s Mad Cat Theatre Company. Since the workshop production of BroadSword opened in 2009, the show has been nominated for five Carbonell Awards (South Florida’s version of the Tonys). Be sure to catch BroadSword during its limited run at the Arsht Center’s Carnival Studio Theater.
