When the world ends, only the Twinkies and roaches will survive. Oh, and Camilo Sesto.

If you laughed at that jab, it’s because you know Camilo Sesto. And if you’re familiar with the sexagenarian Spanish pop singer, chances are good you’re in that middle-age range or beyond. Not that it’s a jab at you. Far be it from this publication to suggest you’re old. It’s just that Sesto hasn’t been hot since the ’80s. Which isn’t to say he hasn’t kept himself relevant — putting out records, touring, making your abuela sigh, and generally playing the game. That’s exactly why the icon will likely outlive the rest of the population.

Truth be told, homey is only 65, which isn’t all that old. But when your career has been chugging along for 40 of those 65, you give off a certain whiff of agedness. Still, Sesto has his following. Retirement homes need to play something to put residents to sleep.

Just kidding. His love-crooning hits — such as “Algo de Mi,” “Amante, Amante,” “Jamas,” and “Perdóname” — are timeless. Catch him live this Saturday before he falls and can’t get up.
