In its 128-year existence, the gentle Japanese way has given birth to combat sports such as sambo and Brazilian jujitsu, leading almost directly to the modern cage-fight fad.
Go old-school this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa Marriott Hotel with the Judo World Cup Miami. If you want to show off your hip tosses and groundwork, grab your judogi and pay the $200 entry fee. But beware: The tournament is a qualifier for the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games, so it’ll be stacked with world-class practitioners from 30 nations, including Russia, Korea, Colombia, France, and the USA. More than likely, you should take a spectator’s seat.
