Running. Be it physically or metaphorically, we’ve all done it. Whether it’s in gym class, through our neighborhoods, on the football field, or away from an unrecognizably distant past, we’re all runners.
However, most of us aren’t marathon runners — or even half-marathon runners. Hell, plenty of people can’t finish a 5K in less than a day, so you’ve gotta give it up for those who can. And there are few better places to show our support for runners than at the annual ING Miami Marathon.
Celebrating its 11th year, the ING Miami Marathon is more than a 26.2-mile run through Miami Beach and downtown Miami. It’s become an entire weekend of wellness, complete with a half-marathon, a 5K, and a health and fitness expo.
The expo kicks off at noon Friday at the Miami Beach Convention Center (1901 Convention Center Dr., Hall C, Miami Beach) and will feature more than 100 exhibitors in fields ranging from nutrition to footwear.
On Saturday, a run/walk 5K eastbound on the MacArthur Causeway begins at 7:30 a.m. Rather than a loop, this 5K is a “point-to-point” race in which participants will start on Watson Island and finish at First Street and Washington Avenue in South Beach.
The main events are the marathon and half-marathon on Sunday. The race starts outside the American Airlines Arena (601 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) at 6:15 a.m. There will be cheer zones and bleachers for spectators along the route. All events are free to the public.
