Okay, so maybe you’ve stopped dreaming of a white Christmas, but some things about the holidays never change. And on that list — right after department store sales and eggnog — is the immortal ballet, George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker. The timeless story of a little girl who finds much more than gifts under her Christmas tree, the tale set in an enchanted land of princes, Rat Kings, and Sugar-Plum Fairies will come to the stage at the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts tonight through Sunday.

Miami City Ballet is predicting a forecast of picturesque wintry weather, dancing candy canes, breathtaking special effects, and melodious precision from a live orchestra. The company’s cast of more than 100 will be joined onstage by local kids taking part in the production. And prior to Saturday’s matinee performance is a Nutcracker Sweets Brunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., where kids and adults alike can get autographs and pose for photos with some of the Nutcracker VIPs. Brunch tickets cost $35; performance ticket prices range from $19.75 to $59.75. Showtimes are tonight at 7:30; Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 and 7:30 p.m. Call 877-929-7010, or visit www.miamicityballet.org.
