If you thought people were messed up on reality programming, try this 1875 opera. Carmen, a Gypsy, twists the heart of her lover, Don Jose, into such agony that it’s inevitable there will be disastrous results.
Tomas Mazuch’s Miami-based Ballet Etoile presents its production of Carmen Thursday and Friday at the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center. The show promises to hew closer to the roots of its Prosper Mérimée novella, which focuses on the seductive and explosive relationship between the Gypsy woman and her wayward lover. Plus there’s the lure of partial nudity.
