Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You

We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.

$10,000

With its Latin spice and sultry clime, Miami has earned a reputation as being a hot city. The people at Gen Art couldn’t agree more. The culture nourishing group is about to launch its Ignite event in the Magic City for the first time.

“We see it as a groundbreaking event in Miami. It’s a great platform for fresh talent,” gushes regional director and all around cool chick Julia Brown. Stop by the film room for Shorts on Fire, a traveling fest featuring recent edgy work from all of Gen Art’s vibrant cities. Experience sensory overload in the main room, with live music by Flirting Through Violence and Jacuzzi Fuzz, as well as a fashion installation by Art of Shade. Visit the outdoor lounge and watch the live graffiti installation by Ekipo. At the end of the evening, you can shake up the spray paint and make your own mark. Your mind will reel with possibilities as you enjoy the four hour open bar overflowing with Beck’s and Stella Artois beer, Tanqueray gin, and Smirnoff vodka. It all goes down at 8:00 at Soho Lounge.

Fri., Jan. 20, 8 p.m.
