Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You

We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.

The tenth season of the Miami Gay Men’s Chorus is coming to a close this weekend, and to commemorate the milestone, the organizers are doing something a little special. Tonight and tomorrow, MGMC presents “Look: Back, Inward, and Forward,” a collection of their favorite music from shows gone by. The show includes songs by ABBA, Elton John, and Gloria Estefan (God forbid a Miami chorus not include Gloria!), performed in four-part harmony as the chorus boys dance and throw in a little dramatic interpretation. Toss in some sparkly costumes, jazz hands, and big bleached-teeth smiles, and it’s a show you’ll never forget. Various chorus members will step off the risers for solos now and then, so make sure to clap extra loud for them.

But it’s not just songs from yesteryear; they’re also performing a new series called “Through a Glass, Darkly”, which tells stories of people struggling with crystal meth addiction. More like the ancient Greek version of “chorus,” you know?
