The average lifespan of a Miami Beach club is a stat that seems to be continuously closing in on zero. That’s why Jazid, only now entering its teens, can be said to have reached a grandfatherly age. The club’s longevity is a testimony to the power of its world-class jazz, funk, cumbia, and reggae acts to attract and retain a crowd. As owner Daniel Wohlstein says, “Jazid is a community, and I believe this sentiment comes from the environment, the people, and the live bands that you don’t get anywhere else on South Beach.”
Come show you’re appreciation this Friday at 8 p.m., when the two-day celebration of Jazid’s 13th anniversary kicks off with intimate performances by fusion crews Locos por Juana and Bachaco. Tickets for this first night cost ten dollars. Saturday night’s blowout carries a $30 price tag because there’ll be three times the tunes. Beginning at 7 p.m., local stars Jacob Jeffries, Fabian Hernandez, Natalie Bretoneche, and the Max Ferber Trio will play an open-air street party outside the club while heavyweights the Spam Allstars, Suenalo, Local 34, the Deco Band, and Akaka hold down the action inside.
