King Britt’s fifteen-year-plus musical career is an astonishingly diverse one. The Philly producer’s career began with a partnership with Josh Wink, cranking out hits for Strictly Rhythm and Wink’s Ovum imprint. It peaked as a neo-soul pioneer who DJed for Digable Planets and issued a well-received 1997 debut, When the Funk Hits the Fan, under the pseudonym Sylk 130. He made a hip-hop album, Adventures in Lo-Fi, collaborating with Bahamadia and Madlib (as Quasimoto). King Britt has produced deep house tracks under the pseudonym Scuba and, more recently, Detroit-style techno as the Nova Dream Sequence. All of King Britt’s evolutions, no matter how left-field, are marked by strong, soulful rhythms and impeccable taste.
