Over the past two decades, David Byrne has delved into all styles of music, from the straightforward pop of Uh-Oh and the salsa of Rei Momo to the instrumental world beat of My Life in the Bush of Ghosts and the stately Grown Backwards. But it is his work with Talking Heads, a tenure that was actually shorter than his solo career, that continues to garner him acclaim: a recent re-issue of their live album, The Name of the Band is Talking Heads, is being feverishly talked up among music fans, and classic Heads tracks such as “Once in a Lifetime” are being quoted in the press for their eerie relevance to this year’s electoral insanity. All of this, of course, makes his upcoming visit to our fair city, a place President George Bush has seemingly abandoned to the liberals, a timely one.
