Those are just some of the stand-up comics considered royalty among their industry peers and diehard fans. However, the comedic hierarchy is not limited to the kings, queens, and household names that have had their own TV series. Laughter is all-inclusive.
But there is only one true professorial mayor of Funnyville. And along with a group of comedy ambassadors, Bruce Bruce is headed our way this long weekend.
“I call myself the mayor of comedy, but I’m also a teacher,” Bruce said in a 2012 interview with Access Atlanta. “I teach a lot of comedians. I sit back and analyze their sets and tell them how to work out their mistakes. So I also call myself the professor of comedy.”
Sunday at 8 p.m., Professor Bruce and his master class of comedians will headline the 66th annual Memorial Weekend Comedy Fest at the James L. Knight Center (400 SE Second Ave., Miami). He’ll be joined by fellow funnymen Corey Holcomb, Shawty Shawty, Cocoa Brown, and Red Grant.
