What’s that in the sky? It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a marshmallow Peep on steroids! No — it’s the Hot “Hare” Balloon, better known as our favorite relentless pop icon, the Energizer Bunny. The pink idol is one of over 30 hot air balloons that will be floating through the air as a part of the 24th Annual Sunrise Community Balloon Race at the Kendall Tamiami Airport.

Until the advent of Jetsons-style technology, hot air ballooning is as close as humans will get to touching the friendly skies. “It’s such a magical experience. It’s like a magic carpet ride,” says Glo Kehoe, pilot of the battery-hawking rabbit. You won’t be as lucky as Glo, but starting at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday and today, you can imagine that it’s actually you soaring high above the Magic City. In addition there’ll be food, games, and plenty of fun for the whole family. Proceeds from the sky-scraping event benefits Sunrise Community, Inc., a nonprofit charity that assists people with disabilities.

April 15-14, 6:30 a.m.
