Before last Saturday, the Miami Hurricanes and Nebraska Cornhuskers had met 11 times on the football gridiron — and four of those games were to decide a national champion. So Saturday’s matchup at Sun Life Stadium, the first regular-season meeting between the storied franchises in more than six decades, was more than just your average college football contest.
Sure, neither the Canes nor the Huskers are quite the national powers they were a few decades ago when they owned the top ten. But the fans in orange-and-green and the visitors in red didn’t care about that.
To capture the historic atmosphere in Miami Gardens, New Times writer Kat Bein and videographer James Argyropolous spent the morning hanging with tailgaters outside the stadium.
