In our traffic-congested concrete jungle lies a secret (okay, maybe not so secret) garden where we can grab a little culture with the horticulture. Today take a minute to smell the flowers and enjoy a little artwork at the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens. Four and a half acres of verdant beauty lie right in the center of busy, noisy South Beach. They’re filled with all kinds of tropical trees and plants, gorgeous orchids, a spectacular Japanese garden, and more green space than your internal hippie can imagine. To top that off, there will be a solo artwork exhibition by one of South Florida’s most creative minds: Marta Estrems.
The artist/art professor has had many successful shows in her native Argentina, and will be displaying her mixed-media creations thanks partially to the Argentine consulate’s cosponsorship. The show runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through January 18 and is free of charge.
Jan. 16-18, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., 2008
