Mitt Romney has got his groove back.

Earlier this week, polls showed Newt Gingrich firmly in control of the Florida primary with a lead of as many as nine points. Then it became a virtual tie. Now two major polls show Romney is once again ahead of the former House speaker just days before Florida Republicans head to the ballot box.

Here are the latest numbers from Quinnipiac and Rasmussen.

Quinnipiac (conducted January 24-26, of 580 likely voters)

  • Romney: 38 percent
  • Gingrich: 29 percent
  • Santorum: 12 percent
  • Paul: 14 percent

Rasmussen (conducted January 25, of 750 likely voters)

  • Romney: 39 percent
  • Gingrich: 31 percent
  • Paul: 9 percent

Of course, nothing is certain at this point. We’ve seen how much the race has dramatically changed this week, and there’s still time for a return of the Newt.
