In anticipation for tonight’s Alkaline Trio show at Revolution, I spoke to drummer Derek Grant about a variety of topics. We discussed the seminal aggro punks’ blistering “return to form” record, This Addiction (the title track’s video is above), the band’s Heart & Skull imprint, and their current pals on the road, Cursive.
How has the tour with Cursive gone? Those guys are great. Our bands have been around for a
long time, but
we’d never really crossed paths. It’s cool to be able to tour with them
and hang out. They like to play Dungeons & Dragons, and they come
to me and ask questions about how to play. They’re kind of new to it, I
guess. I used to play Dungeons & Dragons when I was younger.
There’ll be some more interesting anecdotes by the end of the tour.
More interesting? Picturing Tim Kasher rolling a 20-sided die is tough to beat.
Alkaline Trio, with Cursive. 6:30 p.m. March 23, at Revolution, 200 W.
