So today is jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis‘ 48th birthday. I figured a good way to kick off this week’s Throwback Tuesdays is to feature one of his tunes. We don’t showcase jazz nearly enough on this blog, which is something that needs to change. And as far as a slow Tuesday morning goes, listening to something from the the Branford Marsalis Quartet is perfect regardless of if you’re a jazz lover or not.
Here’s a clip from the early ’90s of Branford’s band reworking Wayne Shorter’s classic tune “Yes or No.” Fans of Spike Lee films will recognize that both Branford and his drummer, Jeff “Tain” Watts also starred in the movie, Mo Better Blues.
