Throwback Tuesdays: DJ Laz – “Journey Into Bass”

Since we’re on an old Miami dance trip here at Crossfade today, I’ll throw my hat into the ring with this old gem: “Journey into Bass” by DJ Laz. Somewhere between freestyle, electro, and bass, this is a prime example of Miami-fying a sound by adding some tinkly synth and a little bit of uh, rapping. Still, this is a nostalgic classic, with a fun-times video whose dancers’ costumes and hangar-style set really remind me of In Living Color…. Of course, DJ Laz is more of a radio-type DJ “personality” now, but word is he’s got some new production tricks up his sleeve…. — Arielle Castillo
