Sure the new TV show Shaq’s Big Challenge is great, but it doesn’t quite fill the long basketball void of the NBA off-season. That’s why tonight is the perfect time to get your midsummer hoops fix, when the Ball 4 Real Streetball tour comes to American Airlines Arena. Organized by the players themselves, this evening’s game will feature the legends of the AND 1 Mix Tape Tour — including AO, Spyda, 50, Main Event, and Mr. 720 — in a contest that’s sure to be half basketball, half amazing.
These modern-day Globetrotters make their living with a display of gravity-defying dunks, trick shots, and acrobatics that make the NBA Slam Dunk Contest competitors look like Michael Doleac. Of course no summer street ball game would be complete without a block party, and this one will feature a car show, DJs, food, giveaways, and local amateur ballers competing for a $100,000 contract. Tip-off is 7:30. Tickets range from $10 to $75 — which, unlike at Miami Heat games, will get you courtside seats. Visit www.ball4real.com for tickets and more info.
