There was a time in the ’90s when “emo” wasn’t a bad word, a style of dress, an overuse of eyeliner, or an awful haircut. It was when bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, Cursive, Texas is the Reason, and The Get Up Kids were proud to play their own guitar-wailing brand of alternative rock and roll, focusing on the, well, emotional aspects of growing up, falling in and out of love, and most predominantly, getting broken up with. But emo became a dirty word and most of the bands who ushered in this wave of music began disassociating themselves with the genre or breaking up altogether. The Get Up Kids did both of those things, calling it quits for good in 2005. That is until now. The Get Up Kids are reuniting for a full fledged tour this year and are bringing their act to Revolution Live on November 12. Tickets aren’t yet on sale, but stay tuned to Crossfade for more details as they emerge.
