After missing Ultra this year, big beat electronica pioneers The Crystal Method will be playing Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale May 14. Along with The Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy, The Crystal Method helped bring breakbeats out of basements and shady clubs, and into mainstream dance floors and rock stations during the ’90s. Sure, mainstream exposure led to government raids, a loss of DIY sensibilities among party-goers, and revelations of how ridiculous ravers look in all their candy-rockin’, pacifier-suckin’ glory. The proverbial nail came when Prodigy frontman Keith Flint shaved his head. But so go all scenes of substance.
That, however, shouldn’t detract from Crystal Method’s raw energy and aggressive hook-laden rhythms that still resonate, even if it’s only in your ear drums, which will be ringing for the next 48 hours.
