Like books? Like art? Like books about art? Then it’s likely you’ll dig the world of the Art Book Review, a Los Angeles-based organization that doles out artsy books to willing writers who then pen reviews.
The group is being hosted by Miami’s Bookleggers mobile library, on site at Locust Projects. The Friday-evening soiree will feature music, cocktails, and lots of good reads.

In addition to reading materials galore, the event will feature cocktails courtesy of Tito’s Vodka and tunes by Alan Gutierrez.
Locust Projects development associate Amanda Sanfilippo says the Art Book Review concept is a cool one. “They gift contemporary art books in exchange for someone writing a review about them.”
The reviews are then posted on their “webzine.” Current book examples on their site include Sailboat and Swans by Michal Chelbin, What We Made: Conversations on Art and Social Cooperation by Tom Finkelpearl, and The Factory of Forms by Elena Bajo.
Their free-stuff-in-exchange-for-writing-reviews model sounds a lot like Yelp but less boozy and more culturally relevant.
The shindig is part of Locust Projects’ One Night Stand series, in which they host pop-up social events across the city in collaboration with various groups.
The event runs from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 14, at 3852 N. Miami Ave., and you can RSVP on Facebook.
