Olives, vermouth, and a raven-haired bombshell. Shake. Dita Von Teese, one of the dolls at the forefront of the nouveaux burlesque movement, has made writhing in a martini glass more popular than actually drinking one. Her corseted 16-inch waist has inspired a generation of women tired of tube-like bods. Legend has it she looks like a tiny porcelain doll, with her exaggerated hourglass figure (32-22-33, uncorseted) and skin that evokes words such as ivory and alabaster. Photographer Sheryl Nields captured all of that on film during moments from Teese’s seductive shows and made the flicks into Dita: Stripteese, a trio of flip books that comprises a tribute of sorts. But the boxed, flocked confection won’t be the only treat at Books & Books Miami Beach. Dita will be on hand to sign copies and display head-to-toe glamour. The signing begins at 4 p.m. this Saturday. If seeing Teese under the bright lights in all of her showgirl glory is what you want, she’ll perform in the evening at LIV, 4441 Collins Ave., Miami Beach. Visit livnightclub.com and booksandbooks.com.
Sat., Dec. 5, 4 p.m., 2009
