The local scene’s been showing a lot of love for Sweat Records after the break-in there a few weeks ago. The little indie store that could is slowly bouncing back, but is still smarting a little. In comes Sweat-Aid, another benefit show tomorrow night at the Vagabond. There’s another reason to pat yourself on the back for attending — doors open early, at 8:30 p.m., for a vice-presidential-debate-watching party to commence at 9.
Should provide a lot of conversation fodder for the party afterwards, which promises to be super liquored up thanks to special $3 “Sweat Shots.” There will be live sets by The Jean Marie, Pretty Please, the Jacuzzi Boys (semi-fresh off a national tour with King Khan) and everybody’s feel-good favorite, Jose El Rey.
And if you haven’t noticed yet, this, of course, means no more Money $hot weekly at the Vagabond on Thursdays — the party went out with a bang last week with a special (and crowded and fun) set by Klever. Details for the new Thursday night at the club under wraps, but if you attend, you will definitely get a taste. No, it’s not live-music-oriented, but look for some less obvious musical clues.
Cover is $5, and all of those proceeds go to Sweat to help the place get back and fully rolling. — Arielle Castillo
