Kathak is one of the main strains of classical Indian dance, originating in North India. It is related to the Persian art form of dance and is based on storytelling through movement. Anyone familiar with the choreography that comes out of Bollywood knows how those various strains have created the most exciting expressions of dance. One of that genre’s masters, Pandit Chitresh Das, has now collaborated with tap dancer Jason Samuels Smith on a fascinating duet, titled “India Jazz Suites,” a program that will be performed at 8 p.m. this Saturday at the South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center (10950 SW 211th St., Cutler Bay).
