$10,000

Last year more than 1.8 million pounds of food was donated to hurricane relief organizations by the nonprofit animal rescue group Fairy Tails. Although the group is stocking up on food, linens, and litter to prepare for the coming storm season, cash donations are still needed to cover the cost of shipping the goods to areas in need. Today from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., you can drop off donations and cash at Petco. All donations are tax deductible. Call 305-596-9694, or visit www.fairytailsadoptions.org. And don’t forget to prepare your own pets. Make sure your fur kids have been microchipped, and get them acclimated to their carriers. Stock up on food and medication, and have an evacuation plan. Visit www.floridapets.net for a list of lodgings that accept animals, or pre-register with the Miami-Dade County Pet-Friendly Hurricane Evacuation Center. Call 786-331-5354, or visit www.miamidade.gov/eoc/ for an application.
