Mobile Monday is for geeks who love everything about mobile
phones and the wireless industry. With
more than 55 chapters around the world, the global community fosters networking,
idea sharing, and interaction. Miami’s chapter, which began meeting in 2008, is focused on not only connecting
South Florida and Latin American companies but also developing the local
mobile tech scene, which is ringing in some substantial success.
Here’s just one example: Myxer (@myxer), one of the mobile industry’s coolest startups, is based right here in Silicon Beach — actually Deerfield Beach, to be exact. The office building is literally next to the Atlantic Ocean. Myxer makes ringtones, wallpaper, video, and other mobile content available absolutely free. So far, millions of users have downloaded millions of pieces of content from the company’s menu of offerings. Myxer started four years ago to help indie music bands upload and share their content on mobile spaces. Today, more than 100,00 bands share their tunes with fans.
Mobile Monday usually meets once a month on — you guessed it — Monday, but this week there’s a special presentation Thursday in conjunction with Frequencia, a series of Latin American mobile industry conferences in Coral Gables.
The meetup will take place at the Westin Colonnade (180 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables) at 6:30 p.m. As with all Mobile Monday meetings, registration is free. To register, visit the Eventbrite page.
