SBWFF 2011: Martha & Emeril’s Let Them Eat Cake Is A Blast

Each year the SBWFF introduces new events. Some fly higher than others. Let Them Eat Cake, a celebration of the Festival’s 10 Year Anniversary expressed in desserts by some of America’s best pastry chefs, was stratospherically successful.

For one thing, it took place on the rooftop of the parking garage at 1111 Lincoln Road — you know, the one by the famous architect that’s still waiting to be painted. But seriously, what a fantastic location for a party — a spacious area with open air views of the whole city (with a roof above, although the weather couldn’t have been better).

There were plenty of bars set up to serve Moët & Chandon champagne and all manner of cocktails (from 10 Cane Rum, Hennessy, Belvedere, Grand Marnier). Music was cool, Martha and Emeril gave little speeches, and there was a neat ice-carving performance. Plus lots and lots of luscious desserts. Later on, Shake Shack arrived with burgers and shakes.
