It’s never been known as a dress-up place. This is not the bar to take a girl on a date (unless your love is a drunk sorority girl), but Coconut Grove’s Sandbar Sports Grill is one of the most popular places for everyone from sailors to college kids to grab a burger and a pitcher of beer.
Sandbar turns 12 this week and it is celebrating with a host of specials and parties, featuring stripper poles, and lots of drinking, starting Monday, March 5 with half-priced tacos.
If you didn’t get the chance to party in New Orleans this year, Sandbar is breaking out the beads for a combination Mardi Gras Spring Break party/pole dancing contest on Tuesday, March 6. We suggest ladies get a little liquid courage before tackling the pole, because the winner gets $500. Not a bad payout for a little acrobatic display (we promise, your boss will never find out that it was you on the stripper pole).
The classy fun gets classier on Wednesday, March 7 with the White Trash Bash beach party. It’s time to bring Pensacola to Coconut Grove with penny beers, $10 hurricane buckets, $3 mixed drinks and female pudding wrestling. Hungry for something other than pudding? Dollar hot dogs and $3 burgers will be served.
Friday closes out the week’s festivities with a trivia contest with a $500 purse and happy hour from 4 to 10 p.m.
We predict a lot of booze (and boobs) at Sandbar this week. Which is great — because there are just so many days you can pretend you’re a fine, upstanding citizen without letting loose.
