For the last “eleven or twelve
years,” Valentine Daliec, owner of Sandbar Lounge in Miami
Beach, has been putting out a free buffet for those who don’t have
anywhere else to go. The unpretentious neighborhood bar, with sand on
the floor and Chinese lanterns overhead, has been owned by Daliec
since 1999. It opened in 1992.
Her gift to the community doesn’t end
with a buffet that will include turkey, stuffing, green bean
casserole, brussel sprouts, yellow squash casserole, and mashed
potatoes. She will also be cooking for Saint Joseph’s Church and
conducting a toy drive on behalf of the nearby parish. So even if
you’re not going to stop by for some grub, Daliec encourages you to
drop off a toy.
“We like to make it look nice,”
she adds, saying, “we put tableclothes and flowers down.”
Dinner is served at 5pm and goes until the food runs out. Homemade pies, including apple butter pumpkin, will also be served.
