Ride That Bull

Whoever said “The great thing about Miami is that it’s so close to the United States” or asked “Will the last American to move out of Miami bring the flag?” obviously never traveled to Homestead. The name itself conjures up images of pioneers and tax breaks. Homestead is so Americana it even has Mexican migrant workers. And if there was any other doubt, it also has the longest running rodeo in the South. Starting Friday at 8 p.m., the 62nd annual Homestead Rodeo will take place at the Doc DeMilly Rodeo Arena at Harris Field.
Everyone — except maybe PETA members — is welcomed to an up-close look at the skills that once made or broke you in the old West. Is it just us or does the schedule of events sound sexier than a precancerous Marlboro man looks? There will be bareback and saddleback bronco riding, tie-down and team roping, steer wrestling, cowgirls’ barrel racing, and the ultimate aphrodisiac, bull riding. The rodeo is also open Saturday and Sunday starting at 2 p.m., with a parade through downtown Homestead on Saturday at 11 a.m. The parade is free.
