Last year, we declared local singer/songwriter Rachel Goodrich “You’re New Favorite Singer,” then New York Times featured her prominently in a story about Miami’s emerging music scene. And now the Miami Herald reports that Goodrich will be going into the studio in July with L.A. songwriter and producer Greg Wells. In case you’re not aware, Wells has worked with Pink, Katy Perry, Natasha Bedingfield, Rufus Wainwright, and more.

From the profile the Herald ran Monday, it seems that Wells understands that Goodrich isn’t your conventional pop singer. He says to the paper, “Her writing is 10 steps ahead of what most people are doing. Even though it’s not super commercial, I think the music is so good it might actually be a hit. The music becomes so infectious, and there’s a confidence and a silliness that’s so great.”

So we guess we won’t be hearing Goodrich singing about kissing girls and the taste of cherry ChapStick any time soon.
