Collins Avenue came to a standstill this morning after a man was struck and killed by a car in front of the Shelborne South Beach. The driver took off but was followed by a witness and later arrested.

The incident happened around 6 this morning. According to NBC Miami, the victim was thrown about 30 feet and died on the scene.

The driver then took off, but a witness followed her to an apartment complex in the 5600 block of Collins and notified police. The woman was later arrested.

Collins Avenue was shut down in both direction between 17th and 19th streets while police investigated.

According to the Herald, guests at the Shelborne were being kept away from their cars.

Neither the identity of the driver nor the victim has been released.
