After you’re done with the leftover turkey (or tofurkey) and you’re fed up with pesky relatives, it’s time to escape and surround yourself with some of the most ingenious Christmas trees you’ll ever lay eyes on. Tonight you can be among the first to see the yuletide creations on display at the 21st annual Festival of the Trees at One Brickell Square.
From a life-size, pine-shape car air freshener to a person dressed head to toe in green posing as a great holiday tree, each work exudes a festive personality all its own. The gala runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and includes all kinds of goodies: an extensive buffet, an open bar with all the trimmings, and some music to get your dance on. Also available is a new book by James Palma featuring photographs from previous festivals. Tickets cost $50 for today’s preview gala, but for those of us with shallower pockets, the trees are on display for free from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day till December 27. All proceeds benefit FIU interior design students. Call 305-348-6630, or visit www.festivalofthetrees.net.
