When a performance is described as bloodless, it’s usually a bad thing. But MDC Live’s presentation of Sin Sangre (Without Blood), performed by the acclaimed Teatro Cinema of Chile, promises to be an exception.
The experimental theater group has toured the world, bringing unique performances that employ everything from massive wooden steam trains to 3-D animation to puppeteers. Based on a novella by Italian author and playwright Alessandro Baricco, this show uses technology to blend live-action performance and video projections with incredible precision and care. The effect of the accuracy of this multimedia fusion is that the audience is left struggling to discern reality from projections. True to its novella roots, the production mingles the darkness of film noir with the quirks of a 1960s B-movie thriller.
