Nightdrive Miami is a nightlife entity proving it can stand the test of time.
First it was a party – then just “Nightdrive” – at the once-popular, now-forsaken Harvey’s By The Bay at the American Legion. Then, the promotion and blogging consortium – now comprised of founder Patrich Walsh, WVUM music director Laura Sutnik, and Moshe Franco – resurfaced as a weekly at the now-defunct Bar. More recently, the trio has been hosting parties at MDTWN clubs like Bardot and The Electric Pickle.
This Saturday, The Pickle will be hosting a Nightdrive-sponsored evening featuring Brooklyn outfit Body Language and New Times’ Best New Electronica Artist, Entresol, which will be making it’s debut as a three-piece.
When we gave Walsh a call to get more info, he described the event simply, saying, “It’s a dance party. We want to make people dance.” We grilled the DJ and promoter on chillwave: What does it mean and does it exist? He skirted the issue entirely, opting instead to describe Body Language as electronic-pop, adding “chillwave is more ambient, more abstract.” He’s got a point, as the quartet doesn’t indulge the egregious lo-fi-isms of the hypnagogic contingent, opting instead for clean and clear vibers with some sharp male/female vocal harmonies that recall British indie-pop band, The XX.
Nightdrive Miami presents Body Language with Entresol, Saturday, July 16. Electric Pickle, 2826 North Miami Ave, Miami. The show starts at 10pm. Pre-sale is $10 here. Call 305-987-4849 or visit www.electricpicklemiami.com
