In the wake of yet another unsuccessful American attempt at the World Cup, the 2006 Kick-It 3v3 Tour seems like a good way to improve at the game and lessen the xenophobia. Sponsored by Sports Illustrated for Kids, the 3v3 Tour is a two-day soccer tournament open to all ages and designed to encourage some healthy competition in a sport where most Americans might feel like a bunch of losers. Created sixteen years ago, the event is the largest 3v3 soccer tour in the world, and features inflatable games, instructional clinics, soccer skill challenges, and food. The tour includes 55 qualifying and twelve regional events held throughout the nation from May through September. The event culminates with the World Championships (not to be confused with another well-known soccer competition), which is hosted by Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. The local tournament will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. July 8 and 9 at the Royal Oaks Sports Plex. Admission is free for spectators. Call 1-888-997-7529, or visit www.kickit3v3.com.
