You hear that? That’s the sound of prices at Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink going up after Chef Michael Schwartz won yesterday the James Beard Award for Best Chef: South. Eater reminds us that the last time a Miami chef won the award was in 2008 when Michelle Bernstein took the honors.
This still doesn’t make up for our disappointment with the award committee who teased Miami with multiple deserving semi-finalist nominations only to exorcise all of them out once the finalists were picked. Miami, as a food city, has grown leaps and bounds, yet continuously gets overlooked by national awards.
But let’s not make this into a bitch-fest. Schwartz’s award was long overdue, so congrats are in order.
