Lawdy, lawdy.

The weekend has already exhausted us and it hasn’t even started. WTF? We’re supposed to have these days to relax. If you’re headed to Festival events, there’ll be no relaxing for you.

But if you’re not, you’ll surely need a couple things to do away from the beach and the weekend’s SoBeWFF traffic and madness.

Cheers to staying off South Beach this weekend.

Al Roker’s Book Signing

Everyone’s favorite morning news personality and pants pooper, Al Roker, will be hosting his own book signing to promote the publishing of his book Never Goin’ Back, Winning the Weight Loss Battle for Good. Roker struggled with weight issues in the public eye as he gave the country the weather report every morning. “And here’s what’s going on in your neck of the woods” became his signature line to queue our local meteorologists for our local reports. Having accomplished his uphill battle, albeit with a few bumps in the road, he wrote his accounts and published them and the book instantly became a national best seller. He was at SoBeWFF’s The Q last night, but catch him tonight at Books & Books in Coral Gables for a far more intimate meeting of the guy who stuggles with health like the rest of us.

BaconFest

When it comes to bacon, no festival is too large. No dish has too much. No world has enough. But at BaconFest, you can probably get close to a bacon O.D. Seminole Casino Coconut Creek is hosting this year’s BaconFest catered to all things pork-related (yes, even his cousine Wilbur). Nearly two dozen South Florida restaurants will be there offering up their finest shrine to pork and you get to be the guinea pig and try them all. It’ll be a full evening of fun events including an interactive chef’s competition, a “hog” bike showcase, mechanical pig riding, corn-hole and beer can bowling, and lots of booze to make it ten times better. Hillbilly tan lines are free of charge. Go get hog-tied, y’all!

Restaurant Hunt

Yesterday, we asked a friend what they usually do during SoBeWFF weekend when they’re not taking part in the festivities. They told us that the usual routine is to find a new restaurant (in this case, outside of South Beach) and go all out. So consider this our challenge to you. Maybe you don’t frequent Kendall. Maybe you don’t cross paths too often with @ARodWrites.
