For a man named after comfort food, Meat Loaf isn’t your run-of-the-mill musical fare. Orchestrated to the nth degree, his music is as much about the theatrics as it is about the man. He has had a strange, enchanted career — opening for rock legends (the Who, the Stooges, Bob Seger, Alice Cooper) and achieving cult stardom as Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. His milestone album, 1977’s Bat Out of Hell, still sells about 200,000 copies a year. The ’80s were less than kind to him, but with 1993’s Bat Out of Hell II, he staged one of the greatest comebacks in pop culture history.
